1.      WHY EXPORT IS IMPORTANT?

-         The reason is for Economic Development

 

2.      WHAT TRADE PROMOTION DOES?

-         Trade promotion is somewhat equivalent to Export Promotion in which it concentrates on Export Promotion except JETRO, which aids those who’d like to export to Japan only.  Promoting trade to foreign country is one of the tasks the Trade Promotion does.  Facilitating buyers and manufacturers is another key task of the Trade Promotion office. However, we can clearly divide the function of Trade Promotion into 2 main roles , which are :-

I)                   A service to Manufacturer on shore

II)                A service to import buyers

 

I)                  A service to manufacturer on shore can be classified as :-

i)                    Trade information services

ii)                   Trade mission

iii)                 Trade fair (both local venue and international venue)

iv)                 In-store promotion  à  join with Department stores in foreign country to show the Thai Products

v)                  Trade representatives services

vi)                 DEP à  find intelligence in particular market about what others are doing

vii)               Business appointment  à  appoint buyers and sellers to meet for business negotiation

viii)              Facilitate the business

ix)                 Advisory to new exporters

 

3.      WHAT’S THE STRATEGIC OF DEP. IN HELPING THAI’S EXPORT MARKET TO BE COMPETITIVE IN THE WORLD MARKET?

-         Currently, there are still no national strategies for what and how to help the Thai’s export market.

 

4.      RATIO OF EXPORT PRODUCT

    Electrical product                35%

    Food                                  12%

    Textile & garment                  8%

    Auto & parts                         4%

    Rubber                               3.5%

    Plastic product                    3.5%

    Jewelry                                 3%

    Furniture & toys &others      31%

-         Of all this list , 40% is BOI product called “Footloose industry”

 

5.      COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE vs. COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGE

-         Competitive advantage is to achieve what brings growth to the business while comparative advantage is the advantage whereby one country has in producing certain goods over the other country.
